BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Director of Risk Management & Sustainability is responsible for leading, developing, integrating and communicating Enterprise Risk, Insurance, Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Sustainability programs and processes. Key focus areas include risk assessment, risk mitigation and continuity planning, climate change, product stewardship and an increased commitment to Health & Safety.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate, design, develop, evaluate and recommend various enterprise risk management strategies, programs and guidelines. This includes outputs related to business continuity and crisis communication planning.
- Identify risks (Financial, Operational, Technology, Talent, Legal & Compliance, etc.) and develop action plans to decrease risk factors.
- Oversee insurance programs with emphasis on risk transfer strategy, predictive analytics related to exposures, insurance contracts, appropriate benchmarking and potential cost reductions.
- Leads Risk Management/EHS&S, fosters collaboration across all business functions and regions, develops mechanisms for exchange of information, ensures consistency and develops both short and long-range Risk Management/EHS&S objectives, goals, strategies and metrics aligned with key stakeholders and MSC's business strategy.
- Assesses and builds a scalable Risk Management organizational structure that supports MSC's operations, product portfolio and sustainability strategy. Identify business and market drivers to define core competencies required for both the organization and team members;
- Leads, develops and mentors Risk Management. Identifies and establishes departmental targets associated with critical cultural attributes associated with Top Workplaces to foster individual and organizational engagement.
- Actively participates as a business partner to create, implement and maintain Risk Management/EHS processes including, but not limited to: key performance indicators (KPIs), hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation, legal and other obligations, EHS training, document management and recordkeeping, audits, inspections, operational control assessments, emergency response, incident investigation and corrective and preventative action prescriptions;
- Continuously seeks to enhance or identify opportunities related to best practices, emerging issues and risks, preventive and corrective measures, compliance and other obligations.
- Provides technical and compliance expertise to business partners and team members at all levels;
- Collaborates with Sr. leaders and site leaders to develop and roll-out a routine cadence (no less than monthly) of reporting associated with leading and lagging KPIs, performance against plan, opportunities for improvement and emerging trends and regulations/standards across disciplines within span of control.
- Leads ESG initiatives associated with our environmental performance (GHG, waste reduction) and influence and support the direction of Social and Governance priorities including, but not limited to supply chain and product governance with key functional leadership groups;
- Responsible for communicating MSC's integrated sustainability strategy, action plans and progress to key stakeholders (including board level, associates, investor, shareholders, government bodies and customers);
- Positions MSC as a leader in the distribution industry regarding key material sustainability topics;
- Manages annual facility capex planning, project prioritization and execution.
- Supports due diligence associated with Risk Management, Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Sustainability for mergers and acquisitions.
- Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Science, Environmental, Safety) or equivalent experience required. Master's Degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in either business, functional or sustainability leadership positions, with direct accountability for the performance and business outcomes within a manufacturing setting.
- A minimum of 10 years of Environmental, Health and Safety leadership with a proven track-record of success in driving change to the organization's safety culture.;
- Experience in developing and executing on strategy and risk management/mitigation. Must bridge strategic direction with tactical activities to deliver results.
- Excellent knowledge & understanding of the sustainability and ESG opportunities facing large multinational companies.
- Proven track-record of building and leading high performing teams.
- Successful track-record delivering results across the enterprise. Has led a global function or department that works extensively with multi-cultural, cross-functional teams.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to translate complex requirements to the business model.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, production-based businesses and regulatory impacts on company products and services.
- Experience in product safety, product development, technology and/or operational leadership roles would be advantageous.
- Proven track record of leading and driving transformation in complex global businesses, preferably in a ‘matrix' reporting structure.
- Will bring advanced knowledge, skills and toolkit related to change management. Bring clear examples of successfully enhancing the sustainability profile of a business through effective change leadership.
- Able to listen to, engage with and influence senior stakeholders. Demonstrate a high level of EQ and interpersonal skills that lead to the development of trusting relationship.
- Must possess excellent executive communication skills, able to distill complex issues into simple and concise messages. Must be experienced and comfortable presenting at Board level and equally capable of adapting your communication style as needed for different audiences and levels.
- Must present with gravitas and credibility that engages audiences; a compelling storyteller, able to influence and build relationships based on credibility and respect.

- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 30% of the time is required.
- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”)
Compensation starting at $154560 - $242880 depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
