JOB TITLE: Supervisor, Shipping

PAY:$51,800 - $75,000

HOURS: 2:00pm-11:00pm, Monday-Friday

LOCATION: 100 MSC Drive, Jonestown, PA 17038

BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Supervisor, Shipping is responsible for overseeing the daily workflow and operations of the Shipping department within the Customer Fulfillment Center (CFC). This position ensures shipping service levels are maintained, delivery trucks depart on time, dock operations remain secure and efficient, and customer issues are resolved. The Supervisor also leads and develops associates, promotes a strong Safety Culture, monitors department performance, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise Shipping department workflow to ensure optimum service levels and reasonable expectancies are maintained.

  • Monitor shipping areas to ensure appropriate service levels are consistently maintained.

  • Ensure the dock area is secure and operating efficiently.

  • Oversee service levels to ensure delivery trucks depart on time and as scheduled.

  • Arrange back-up delivery service when required.

  • Supervise the loading of drop shipments into delivery trucks.

  • Prepare bills of lading.

  • Resolve customer issues and shipping-related problems.

  • Utilize the AL system to perform daily uploads and close-outs.

  • Monitor and order loose-fill packing materials, including peanuts.

  • Conduct weekly department meetings to promote communication and discuss improvement opportunities.

  • Operate warehouse vehicles including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, turret trucks, and order pickers.

  • Delegate work through Work Team Coaches to ensure smooth process flow.

  • Promote safe work practices and support the company's Safety Culture.

  • Track and submit weekly reports regarding catalog shipments and transfers processed.

  • Attend cross-functional meetings regarding new procedures and improvements to current systems.

  • Resolve manifest issues as needed.

  • Support associate involvement in safety through team engagement in the Safety Culture.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement efforts within the department and use assessment tools to mitigate risk.

  • Document attendance and submit payroll information.

  • Conduct performance reviews and support the development of associates.

  • Participate in hiring, termination, review, and development of associates as required in the MSC Supervisor role.

  • Foster MSC Culture within the department and throughout the company.

  • Temporarily reassign associates to other warehouse functions when necessary to meet customer service requirements.

  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience required.

  • Previous warehouse, shipping, distribution, or logistics experience preferred.

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of MSC's product offerings required.

  • Basic computer literacy required.

  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software required.

  • Knowledge of AS/400 and Manifest systems required.

  • Knowledge of basic packing and shipping processes.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to effectively delegate work and manage department workflow.

  • Ability to resolve customer, shipping, and operational issues.

  • Ability to promote safe work practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Must obtain an MSC license to operate distribution center vehicles within specified time requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to bend to lift items from the floor and warehouse racks.

  • Must be able to lift items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Must be able to operate at heights up to 50 feet.

  • Must be able to safely operate warehouse material handling equipment.

  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with a warehouse environment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position may require a valid state driver's license.

  • Must follow established safety procedures and support the MSC Safety Culture.

  • May be required to temporarily perform or supervise other warehouse functions to meet customer service requirements.
