BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Analyst, Market Intelligence gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes market, competitive, and customer intelligence to support strategic decision-making across Marketing, Sales, Customer Experience, Category Management, and Executive Leadership. This role turns internal and external data into clear, actionable insights on market dynamics, competitive positioning, and growth opportunities, and communicates those insights through recurring reporting and ad-hoc analyses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct primary and secondary market research to track industry trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities
- Perform market sizing, segmentation, and growth analyses to support strategic planning and investment decisions
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative inputs (e.g., industry reports, surveys, analyst research, internal data, and stakeholder interviews) to build concise, decision-ready market perspectives
- Develop and maintain market landscapes, competitor profiles, and an intelligence repository; identify patterns, risks, and opportunities across segments, categories, and key competitors
- Produce recurring market and competitive intelligence updates (including macroeconomic indicators) and ad-hoc readouts for leaders and functional partners
- Partner with Category Management, Digital, Customer Experience, and Sales to apply insights to customer journeys, campaign planning, merchandising/category strategy, and product/service launches
- Manage select research vendors and engagements as needed (scope, timeline, deliverables, and internal stakeholder alignment)
- Translate complex findings into clear narratives and executive-ready deliverables (dashboards, presentations, and concise written briefs)
- Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Insight generation & synthesis: independently analyze large amounts of data from multiple sources and as a result extract tangible and meaningful insights
- Research & analytics: designs/executes primary and secondary research; applies market sizing, segmentation, and trend analysis
- Data storytelling: communicates insights through executive-ready narratives, dashboards, and presentations tailored to the audience
- Stakeholder partnership: collaborates cross-functionally to define business questions, align on priorities, and drive adoption of insights
- Project & vendor management: scopes work, manages timelines/deliverables, and ensures quality and consistency of outputs
- Continuous improvement: enhances recurring reporting and research processes to improve accuracy, speed, and stakeholder usefulness
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Business, or related field or the equivalent experience required.
- 3–5 years of experience in market research, market intelligence, competitive intelligence, or related analytical roles
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting complex, unstructured datasets and market research findings
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
- Ability to translate business requirements / information needs into projects that deliver actionable insights and inform marketing or strategic plans
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present insights to senior stakeholders
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Industrial or manufacturing experience
- Experience conducting both primary (surveys, interviews) and secondary research
- Familiarity with market research methodologies (segmentation, conjoint, pricing research)
- Experience working with syndicated research providers and analyst firms
Other Requirements:
- A valid driver's license may be required
- Position requires travel on an as needed basis
- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”)
Compensation starting at $58000 - $91080 depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
