BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
The Inventory Management Specialist (IMS) Manager is responsible for all current and future MSC Solutions projects and implementations. Leading a team of skilled Inventory Management Specialists (IMS), the IMS Manager ensures successful execution of all project timelines and inventory management implementations, high customer satisfaction, consistent associate development, and the achievement of departmental goals. The IMS Manager is responsible for mentoring and performing the skills required for those in the reporting line including, but not limited to: complex inventory management installations, highly detailed project planning, and thorough data collection, along with vending machine diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and training. Managing a project funnel of $25M to $35M while meeting the financial and productivity goals for the department is required. The IMS Manager must display competencies to improve associate skills and career development, onboard and train, develop team goals, understand and explain supply chain practices, and meet the MSC standard of excellent customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage past, present, and future inventory management installations.
- Provide leadership to ensure all implementations are completed on time, within budget, and meet MSC’s standard of excellence.
- Own all project timelines and implementation schedules in the assigned region.
- Ensure stakeholder expectations are met or exceeded.
- Drive measurable improvements in installation speed and associate adoption of new technologies.
- Support MSC’s revenue goals through:
- Improved scheduling
- Higher quality implementation output
- Enhanced communication with all stakeholders before, during, and after installations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Train team members and hold them accountable for:
- Inventory Management Solutions discovery, including data collection
- Full MSC Solutions knowledge
- Complete project ownership and accountability
- Implementation of all MSC Inventory Management Solutions
- Onsite VMI & vending maintenance and repair
- Pre-, during-, and post-installation support
- Cost control related to installation and travel expenses
- Support for program cancellations
- Effective time and resource use to ensure full completion before departure
- Stay current on all MSC Inventory Management Solutions, including:
- Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
- Vending
- Inventory crib software
- Vending portal
- eProcurement options
- Integrated Punch Out and hosted catalogs
- ERP integration
- MSCdirect.com
- Represent MSC with professionalism and subject matter expertise at customer meetings.
- Communicate MSC’s Value Proposition, direction, and strategy to align with customer goals.
- Create, schedule, and monitor workflow across the IMS team.
- Coach associates to meet internal and external customer needs in a timely manner.
- Lead internal and external initiatives to improve department metrics and increase output quality.
- Support MSC’s Lean initiatives by:
- Evaluating current processes
- Documenting and recommending improvements
- Streamlining inventory management for customers
- Hire and onboard new associates, including:
- Interviewing
- Training
- Reviewing compliance expectations
- Ensuring role deliverables are met
- Control costs by reviewing and approving team expenses in line with company policies.
- Perform all duties inherent to an MSC Manager, including:
- Hiring
- Termination
- Performance reviews
- Associate development
- Foster the MSC Culture and ensure alignment with the company’s vision and purpose.
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent experience is required
- Minimum of three years direct associate management required
- Five years complex cross-functional project management experience is strongly preferred
- Minimum of two years' experience with implementation or logistics planning required
- Experience leading complex Vendor Managed Inventory implementations required
- Experience troubleshooting computer hardware and software required
- Knowledge of metalworking and MRO product lines is preferred
- Experience managing large geographic areas with remote direct reports is strongly preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel 85% including overnight is required
- Must possess basic knowledge and use of hand and power tools
- Proficient knowledge of all tools and technology utilized for implementation
- Able to perform physical activities such as lifting up to 50 lbs consistently
- Ability to work in various types of industrial environments
- Must adhere to all MSC and customer-specific safety requirements such as wearing hardhats, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, etc.
- Must be able to pass customer-specific background demands which may include but are not limited to drug testing, criminal background checks, etc.
- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”)
Compensation starting at $72,000 - $103,000 depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements, and peer pay equity. The company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
