Cross Reference & Sourcing Representative, Customer Care
BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cross Reference & Sourcing Representative works on cross reference requests to increase the match rate of what is returned to our customers. This primarily includes assisting in the identification of non-catalog or non-Big Book items for quotation purposes. Additionally, work will be needed identifying the equivalent MSC part number through conversion of a competitor, manufacturer, or other nomenclature.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Locates (source) products or vendors that are non-catalog or special for the Cross Reference Team
- Identifies an MSC equivalent for products or vendors that are non-catalog or special items.
- Works with the List Management database to convert Competitor, Manufacturer, UPC (Universal Product Code), NSN (National Stocking Number), and other nomenclature to MSC part numbers.
- Adds non-cross-referenced items (not currently in the AS400 database) into the competitive cross reference database.
- Completes tasks based on timelines mutually agreed upon by the requestor and the RFQ team to meet customer expectations.
- Works with vendors to create quotes with complete direct ship order notes.
- Reads and understands (confirm if necessary) Requestors' needs before cross is started. Double check before the list is returned and closed.
- Ability to communicate effectively and proactively with project requestors until a project is closed and returned.
- Communicates all delays with the requestor, supervisor, and Data Analyst.
- Prepares, completes and when required submits customer quotes to Customer Care customers as requested by Customer Care associates.
- Communicates any lead times and supplier cost on AS400 quotes that are created or within Comments within List Manager.
- Makes good business decisions when crossing items for the requested quote based on guidelines provided by the project owner.
- Maintains record status and tracking documentation as required.
- Remains up to date with all cross-reference functions to provide additional resources when required.
- Utilizes monthly allocated time to enhance product knowledge.
- Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of Industrial industry experience is required.
- Basic proficiency in Windows PC as well as the Internet is required.
- Is persistent and quality oriented when identifying, sourcing, and crossing products.
- Proficiency in basic Excel skills necessary to manipulate data for uploading and downloading functions required.
- Familiarity with a variety of industrial products is required.
- Good communication skills are required.
- Must have organizational skills, be able to multi-task and re-prioritize daily duties as needed.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Minimum of two years of Cross Reference and Sourcing experience preferred.
- Proficiency in the AS/400 sales-related functions preferred.
- MRO subject matter expert in at least one of the following areas preferred:
- Electrical
- Hydraulics / Pneumatics
- HVAC
- Power Transmission
- Pipe/Valve/Fittings
- Metalworking

- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”)

Compensation starting at $16.11 - $25.28 / Hour depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
